Debts that are Excluded from Personal Bankruptcy

Some types of debt are not affected by bankruptcy. For example, child support, alimony, some taxes, and student loans are generally not discharged by bankruptcy. In addition, if a creditor believes you obtained money, credit, or property by fraud, the creditor may be able to ask the bankruptcy court to decide whether that debt should be discharged.

The rules on these issues are complicated. This is one reason why we never use pre-recorded information as a substitute for listening to you, finding out your financial situation, and giving you specific and qualified legal advice.
